Audacity was originally created back in 2000 by two university students who saw the masses of applications built for audio editing but noticed that there weren’t any free alternatives available. The founders of Audacity are still involved in the project, although one of them now works at the internet search engine giant Google and therefore this has become a side-project for him. However, even despite this the project continues to grow at an alarming rate. In fact, it was announced in 2011 that it had received over 76 million downloads over its lifespan so far and this is increase every single day.
